Steven Anthony Cook

How did this new album and overall concept for it come about, and what are your ultimate goals with it?

The concept for my new album grew out of the seed planted by the creation of the first cd. When “It’s Beautiful Day” was completed (September 1st 2012). Being in a highly creative zone, I was hearing so much music that it could have just poured out of me. I began writing until I had 15 songs to chose from “Insight to You “was the first song I wrote of the group of 15, then “ It Always Feels Good” was the second song written.

I knew conceptually that I wanted the second cd to have a much smoother, sensual, relaxing and funkiness to its sound and feel, so with these ideas in mind I created and shaped “It Always Feels Good”

I am excited about the completion of my second cd. My ultimate goal is to have listeners’ all over the world make my music part of their life. I am also looking forward to traveling around the world playing “It Always Feels Good” live for fans.

How would you describe what inspires you to do what you do?

I would describe what inspires me to do what I do as a constant, consistent love of being able to create and play music because its very rewarding to hear something in your mind and complete it for everyone to hear.

What elements do you look for in a song that makes it especially satisfying for you to perform?

I look for groove, melodic flavor and great harmonic, rhythmic conversation between the accompanying instruments.

What would you define as the most life-changing event so far in your musical career?

The opportunity to play with the great drummer Elvin Jones. I never heard drums and music sound like that; it was amazing, as well as a lesson that I will never forget.

What are you most proud of at this point in your life and career?

I am proud of the fact that I took advantage of the opportunity to study composition because studying past composers and their styles has given me a greater insight into creating music. I am also proud that I was able to complete two cd’s, which will catapult me into other musical avenues that I look forward to.

When the times arise for you to give back for the success and abundance you enjoy, what kinds of opportunities do you look for?

I feel when you have created music that listeners’ enjoy you’ve succeeded and have giving back, because what you’ve written musically is an expression of who you are. You are also creating and cultivating a symbiotic relationship between you and your listeners that can become a constant growth of give and take. I will also like to continue in the educating of students about music.
