How did this new album and overall concept for it come about, and what are your ultimate goals with it?

A few years ago, I decided that I'd like to record an album of my work as a more mature, seasoned artist.  I wanted to create a legacy of who I am artistically, vocally, creatively.  The concept started out to record songs which had some personal meaning to me or which, in the case of originals which were presented to me, appealed to me because of relatable lyrics, or overall appealing song.  The original goal was to record.  Period.  Then, as the project evolved artistically, the desire to seriously present it to a broad audience became the goal.

What artists do you feel akin to or in the same tribe with?

In a universal sense, I feel akin to/in the same tribe with all the other artists who just "GOTTA"
play/sing/act/paint... you just do it. More specifically, a singer like Carmen Lundy, Dianne Reeves, the Queens and Kings like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McCrae, Nat Cole,
Joe Williams, great instrumentalists,  great entertainers like Sammy Davis Jr.; the foundation that was laid by the tradition of constant striving for excellence and dedication is a part of my being as an artist.

It's difficult for me to isolate names because I admire and respect so many musical artists who cover just about every genre of music..from jazz to pop to gospel to country to classical, etc.  I'm not trying to duck the question, I just belong to a really big tribe.

Who are some of your current favorite artists, Smooth Jazz or otherwise?

Carmen Lundy, Dianne Reeves, Earth, Wind and Fire, Gregory Porter, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny. This is a hard question to answer.  I don't listen to a lot of radio or buy lots of cd's, is it okay for me to confess that? :-)

How would you finish this sentence?

ďI donít like to go a day without..." telling someone I love them.

Outside of your musical career, what else in your life gets you excited and fulfilled?

I enjoy traveling. I cross-country ski. I read voraciously. I loveeee the company of smart, funny, kind people. I love comedy / humor in all it's forms. I love watching movies.

Whatís your favorite charity or cause you work for, and why?

I and my husband are involved in many charities and causes. Most important to me are the ones which support opportunities for women to better their circumstances, such as "Women At Work" in Pasadena CA.     I support charities and causes because it's the right thing and I can.

What are some of the most important goals you have for yourself in the next five to ten years?

Enjoy life. Help others. Sing all over the world.
