DID YOU KNOW?

Chieli attended Ithaca College in upstate NY, where he initially majored in music, studying classical guitar, but eventually settled in as an English major. He continued studying music theory, history, solfeggio, composition, and big band arranging, as well as joining various local groups: Amethyst, a folk/pop trio; The New Band, his first foray into fusion-jazz/rock; Fast Food, a new wave vocal/rock group; Colombo, a Brazilian trio; and finally, a long stint in Gumbo, an original instrumental/fusion rock quartet.

The college life gave Chieli an opportunity to be a part of many diverse musical situations, which was key in his future as a composer/guitarist.

Stations Continue To Find Common Ground With Three Deep's COMMON GROUND!

Three Deep's debut release COMMON GROUND saw another increase in spins this week as stations across the country continue to embrace the combined extraordinary stylings of jazz legends Billy Preston, Russ Brannon and Preston Glass.

Ronald Jackson, from the "Smooth Jazz Ride" reviewed this exceptional recording saying "If you're looking for good, uncomplicated, unpretentious, gentle and smooth - yet moving - jazz on a level that not only demonstrates talent but strikes at the core of the genre, COMMON GROUND should easily find common ground with you."

In 2006, composer/keyboardist Billy Shields recorded CRYSTAL BLUE, engaging well-known producer Preston Glass (Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Kenny G, etc.) as his collaborator, and the result was a bevy of Smooth Jazz radio hits.

This impressive project encompassed all the most compelling and accessible attributes of this genre of music we know and love as Smooth Jazz.
