Though Frank Van Engelen is a successful internet entrepreneur running various webshops, the Dutch composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist’s recent emergence in Smooth Jazz as DiAngelis offers a dynamic look at how a well-chosen ensemble can propel one’s musical vision forward. The former Gare du Nord bassist employs his sure fire musical formula based on what he calls “The Steely Dan Principle,” eschewing a single fixed lineup and choosing the perfect musicians to work their magic on each track. On both his debut single, “Now Is Everything” and on this new funky, high octane, post-breakup tune “You And I," DiAngelis gets in an explosive organ solo while allowing stellar vocalist Esmee Peters and a killer Dutch electric guitarist to take the emotional reins on "You And I."
