How did this new album and overall concept for it come about, and what are your ultimate goals with it?
We really created this CD for our fans. We play a lot of our original material when we do our concerts and many of the fans have asked us for a concert style CD. So we produced it for them. Most of the tracks are extended past what is considered the normal length of a radio track because we wanted to included the riveting, heartfelt sax and guitar solos on each track. Our goal for this project was to please our fans and to gain new fans. So far it has been working.
What aspect of the creative process, from concept to market, do you personally find to be the most rewarding?
What we find rewarding about the process to create new music is the fact that we do not let creative differences get in the way of how we create new songs. Usually, one person will start playing something or bring an idea to the table and we will all start working on developing the song until we are all satisfied. Like anything in life we sometimes disagree with the direction that a song is going, but we continue to work on it until everyone is happy with the end result.
How would you describe what inspires you to do what you do?
Simply put, it is the love of music that inspire us to do what we do. We just love it.
What makes Global Grooves different from other artist in the jazz genre?
Global Grooves is a very diverse band. We range in age from 28 to 53. We all come from different geographical areas of the global. We are a multicultural band and we believe that is what makes our sound special. We actually incorporate a global sound.
At what point in your life did you make the decision to become a professional musician and actually record your own albums?
Well, that's a funny story. In June of 2007 The G... (Gerald Little) our drummer and manager bought a keyboard for his wife Arla. After playing around on the keyboard he had created several tracks. In November of 2007 he decided to put the CD on Cdbaby.com. Besides expecting a few sales he really wasn't expecting much more to happen. After just five days of the CD being on Cdbaby.com, he started getting request from radio stations world-wide to air his music. After that the rest was history. He created several more solo CDs and then he formed Global Grooves so he could do what he really loves; playing live music. On The Move is Global Grooves' debut CD and the world is embracing it.
What are some of the most important goals you have for yourself in the next five to ten years?
We would like to be a viable contributor to the smooth jazz and contemporary jazz market. Our dream is to perform at jazz festivals with the top jazz artist. Once we have accomplished that we have accomplished our dream.
