How did this new album and overall concept for it come about, and what are yourultimate goals with it?
I have been writing songs for almost as long as I have been playing the Piano. This album is a way to get these compositions heard. The concept is a simple one, write great songs and have them played by great musicians. No Loops, No Drums Machines, No Sequences just an Organic Live Approach. My ultimate goal is to open up more opportunities to perform and to continue to record my music.
What elements do you look for in a song that makes it especially satisfying for you to perform?
Most of the music I perform I have written so the question for me is, how do I write something that is worthy of performing. It usually starts with a feeling. It could be one of hope, love, happiness, or maybe just a light good time feeling. I follow the feeling in a melodic way, always letting the feeling drive the song. If I feel that I have accomplished that I perform it. The same applies to cover songs, there has to be some type of emotional connection.
Who are some of your current favorite artist, Smooth Jazz or otherwise?
My favorite artists are: Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and Joe Sample.
How would you finish this sentence? “I don’t like to go a day without _________”?
I don’t like to go a day without seeing my wife’s pretty eyes.
If you were to choose to learn a new instrument that you’ve never played before, what instrument might that be?
Wow…I would choose the drums. Driving the band from behind the drums would be awesome.
What’s your favorite non-music activity?
My favorite activity is fishing and being out on the water. Being on the water is a total disconnect for me and allows me to recharge my battery.
