How did this new album and overall concept for it come about, and what are your ultimate goals with it?
Well I had just went thru a horrible break up that just took a toll on my heart and like any musician or artist, I started creating. Most of the songs on the cd are songs I wrote to cope with the ups and downs of that relationship. That's why I named it From The Heart.
What elements do you look for in a song that makes it especially satisfying for you to perform?
Well if it has lyrics, I first listen to them and try to sing the words as I play. It's kinda funny because listeners have told me that they hear the words as I play even to songs that were written with no lyrics.
Of your touring and gigs so far in your career, do any stand out as being particularly memorable or defining moments?
Yes, June of 2009. That was the moment where I stepped and performed on the largest stage in my career at the Capital Jazz Competition. It was the moment I'd been waiting for my entire life. It felt as if all of my hard work had paid off. No nervousness, just excitement the entire time on and off stage. I'm so thankful and have been blessed for that moment and winning the competition.
Who are some of your current favorite artists, Smooth Jazz or otherwise?
Donald Hayes, who is my mentor, Kirk Whalum, Michael Jackson of course, and Usher have been a big influence in my career.
What in your life outside of your music drives you in a creative sense?
Just one 4 letter word: LOVE. I'm heavily driven by the idea and feeling of being in love or loved.
How would you finish this sentence?
I donít like to go a day without giving thanks to God for blessing me in so many ways and mainly for my gift in music.
Going back in your life as far as you can remember, what song or performance is the first you recall hearing and being affected by?
